Sustainable Shaving: The MÜHLE Story

The MÜHLE Shaving Culture was founded in 1945 when Otto Johannes Müller, having returned from the war, established a business making the first shaving brushes and designing the MÜHLE signet. Over the next two decades, the company grew to 40 employees and began exporting its products to 36 countries under the leadership of Hans-Jürgen Müller.

In 1972, however, the company was expropriated by the German Democratic Republic, and MÜHLE became a state-owned enterprise, manufacturing brushes only for the state. It was not until 1990, after the reunification of Germany, that Hans-Jürgen Müller regained the family business, which he then traded as Hans-Jürgen Müller KG, with the MÜHLE signet remaining.

The post-reunification years were a struggle for survival, but MÜHLE slowly rebuilt its customer base and rehired former employees. By the dawn of the new millennium, the company had expanded its offering to a full range of wet shaving goods, and the MÜHLE brand began to gain recognition.

Today, MÜHLE continues to design, develop, and manufacture the finest quality shaving products from its family-owned premises in historic Saxony, northern Germany. For over 75 years, a skilled workforce has handcrafted the most discerning shaving tools for gentlemen who demand the best wet shaving experience.
